Rebekah erscheint im Buch Genesis als die gewählte Frau Isaaks, des Sohnes Abrahams. Sie ist hier im Moment dargestellt, als sie Isaak sieht. Rebekahs indirekter Blick und ihre Kopplung der Schleier an ihrem Kragen zeigen ihre Bescheidenheit. Gleichzeitig bildet ihre offene linke Hand jedoch eine Geste der Begrüßung. Diese Gesten stellen ideale weibliche Attribute in der viktorianischen Ära dar. Das Thema einer verhüllten Figur wurde zunächst in Italien aus dem 18. Jahrhundert konzipiert und genossen eine Wiederbelebung im neunzehnten Jahrhundert, weil sie die Virtuosität des Bildhauers in der arbeitenden Marmor hervorhob.
