Caravaggios Auswirkungen auf die neapolitanische Malerei zeigt sich in diesem Stillleben, das mit frischen und getrockneten Früchten und Nüssen überfließt, die zusammen kommen, um die Jahreszeit des Herbstes vorzuschlagen. Giuseppe Ruoppolo, dessen Stillleben als "Wahrhaft schöner als die Natur selbst" gelobt wurden, war der Schüler seines Onkels Giovanni Battista Ruoppolo, dessen Werke eine ähnliche Glanzigkeit zeigen, die sich von den glatteren Ebenen und Formen unterscheidet, die von ihren norditalienischen Pendants begünstigt wurden.
