Dieses Bild des bodhisattva Jizō (Sanskrit: Kshitigarbha), ein Retter für verstorbene Kinder, zeigt, wie Künstler verschiedener Hintergründe oft eine Nebenlinie mit religiösen Malereien hatten. Diese frühe Arbeit von Hanabusa Itchō wurde geschaffen, als er sich noch als Nachfolger der akademischen Kano Schule angesehen hat. Am besten bekannt als brillanter Beobachter des Lebens in Edo (heute Tokio), seine Genre Gemälde zeigen oft eine humorvolle Note.
