Am 1. März 1937 besuchte der japanische Komponist und Dirigent Qunihico Hashimoto Schönberg in Los Angeles. Zwischen 1934 und 1937 studierte Hashimoto Komposition bei Egon Wellesz in Wien. Hashimoto besuchte mit seiner Einführung in die Hand Schönberg in seinem Haus (Brentwood Park, 116 North Rockingham Avenue) auf seiner Reise nach Japan.
