Gyoshu (1894-1935) ist bekannt für die Anwendung der realistischen, von der westlichen Malerei und der chinesischen Malerei gelernten, japanische Malerei. Er bemalte eine pflegte Katze friedlich schlafen als das weiche Licht der aufgehenden Sonne, die die Atmosphäre ausfüllt. Obwohl Blumen und Blätter nicht gezogen werden, ist die Art und Weise, wie der Baum seine Zweige zum Himmel stark ausdehnt, nicht mehr gewinnbringend.
