Hulsdonck wurde in Antwerpen geboren, verbrachte seine frühen Jahre im südlichen niederländischen Hafen von Middelburg, wo der Blumenmaler Ambrosius Bosschaert (1573–1621) sein Modell war. In dieser späten Arbeit beschäftigt Hulsdonck eine serienmäßige Antwerpener Komposition, die aus Bildern von Jan Breughel I und II und von Frans Snyders (von denen die rhythmischen Rankings kommen) bekannt ist.
