Als dieses Porträt zusammen mit einem Offizier von Wybrand de Geest (SK-A-4190) an die Nationale Konst-Gallerie im Jahre 1805 gespendet wurde, wurde der Sitter als Lamoraal, Graf von Egmond (1522-68) bezeichnet. Diese Identifikation wurde später zugunsten eines Justinus von Nassau (1559-1631) zurückgelassen. Der Vergleich mit substantiierten Porträts von Justinus von Nassau, wie der in der Leeuwarden-Serie (SK-A-536) zeigt, dass diese Identifikation ebenso fantasievoll ist.Der Beitrag zu Van Ravesteyn kann beibehalten werden, und dieses geschäftige Porträt kann bis zum zweiten Jahrzehnt des 17. Jahrhunderts datiert werden.
