Vanmour bemalte wahrscheinlich das Portrait von Abdullah Efendi (1680?-1743). Ab 1718 wurde dieser griechische Priester an das Gericht in der Funktion des Seyhül-Islams gebunden und musste das Feld nach der Rebellion von 1730 löschen. Er wurde verbannt, kehrte aber still nach Istanbul zurück, wo er 1743 starb. Abdullah hatte eine beeindruckende Sammlung rechtlicher religiöser Dokumente und spielte eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Einführung des Drucks im Osmanischen Reich.
