Lecomte du Nouÿ war ein französischer Künstler, der durch umfangreiche Reisen nach Griechenland, der Türkei, Ägypten und Italien Inspiration für seine Arbeit fand. Er zielte darauf ab, detaillierte, realistische Szenen zu malen und gegen den vorherrschenden Trend für Impressionismus zu kämpfen.
