Obwohl es sich um ein niederländisches Stillleben aus dem 17. Jahrhundert handelt, wurde es im achtzehnten Jahrhundert vom Pariser Maler Chardin gemacht. Er versammelte alltägliche Objekte, wie eine große Kupferpfanne, zwei Erdgeschirrmörtel und einige Lebensmittel, die sie in weiche Beleuchtung. Chardin war ein großer Bewunderer niederländischer Meister aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, wie Pieter Claesz und Willem Heda, obwohl er viel freier als seine Vorgänger malte.
