Eine felsige Piste am Fjord, teilweise mit Gras bedeckt. Ein Ruderboot ist auf dem Wasser, Inseln und Bergen in der Ferne. Nielssen war ein beliebter Maler in seiner Zeit und war vor allem für seine Landschaftsbilder von der norwegischen Küste bekannt. Nielssen studierte in Düsseldorf, wie es für n Künstler in seiner Zeit normal war, wo er unter dem großen norwegischen Maler Hans Gude studierte. Wir können sehen, dass Gude von der Zeit nach seinem Studium einen starken Einfluss auf seine Kunst hatte. Der Fjord im Gemälde Hardangerfjord ist der zweitlängste Fjord in Norwegen und der fünftlängste Fjord der Welt.
