Johann Moritz Rugendas (Augsburg, Deutschland, 1802 - Weilheim, Deutschland, 1858) war Maler, Zeichner und Gravur. Als Expeditionsentwürfe und Dokumentarfilmer für Baron de Langsdorff brasilianische Expedition kam er 1822 in Brasilien an und nahm erst 1824 an der Expedition teil. Zwischen 1825 und 1828 lebte er in Paris, Augsburg und München und widmete sich der Organisation und Publikation seines Werkes „Voyage Pittoresque au Brésil“ (Viagem Pitoresca ao Brasil) in einer anspruchsvollen Lithographie-Ausgabe von Engelmann, mit Text in Französisch und Deutsch, im Jahre 1835. Dieses an die Öffentlichkeit gerichtete Reisebuch hatte die Teilnahme von 22 Lithographen und Victor Aimé Huberna an der Erstellung der Texte.
