John La Farge war vielleicht der größte Innovator in der Geschichte der modernen Glasmalerei. Sein bedeutendster Durchbruch war die Entdeckung von opales Glas. Er entwickelte die Technik des Verschmelzens von kleinen Glasbits, ohne dass es zu Bildern kam, die zuvor nur lackiert werden konnten. Dieser Prozess wurde schnell von solchen Leuchten wie Louis Comfort Tiffany angepasst.Dieses Schmetterlinge und Foliage Stained Glass ist eine exquisite skalierte Reproduktion eines Fensters, das 1889 von La Farge für das William H.
