Dieses Panorama des Jura erobert das Wesen der Aussicht. Ruskin liebte das Reisen in den Jura-Gebirge und dachte oft daran, wie es wäre, in solch inspirierender Umgebung zu leben. „Wie wenige der Bewohner der Erde sogar das tausendste ihres Lebens an solchen Orten verbringen können! Und von denen, die können – wie wenige wissen, was in ihrer Macht ist! . .. und wie viele tausend Herzen von Freude in einer Stunde Angewohnheit eines solchen Ortes sterben würden.“ (Diary, Lausanne, 8. Juni 1841)
