1800 heiratete Robert Shurlock (1772–1847) John Russells Tochter Henrietta Ann Jane Russell (1775–1849), in der Nähe des Künstlerhauses in Guildford, Surrey. Dieser Pastell wurde wahrscheinlich kurz nach der Heirat abgeschlossen, und das Begleitporträt von Henrietta mit dem ersten Kind des Paares ist auch in dieser Galerie. Hier ist Mr. Shurlock ein schüchterner Mann auf der Höhe seiner Jugend, der einen Seidenhalsschal und einen doppelbraunen Mantel mit Messingknöpfen trägt. Der Künstler führte mehrere andere Porträts für die Familie seiner Tochter aus, alle aus dem Jahr 1801.
