apollo und daphne ( 1908 ) ist ein ölgemälde der engländer Pre-Raphaelite maler john william waterhouse . in der griechischen mythologie , daphne war die tochter des flussgottes peneius . sie war der göttin artemis in vielerlei hinsicht ähnlich , insofern war sie auch eine jungfräuliche jägerin, die glücklich durch die wildnis streifte . Eines tages , der liebesgott eros schoss eine menge pfeile, um apollo zu verspotten , der gott der prophezeiung . Der erste von Eros' pfeile war ein gold-tipped welle und als es apollo traf, ließ es ihn sofort in daphne verlieben . Der zweite , jedoch , hatte eine bleispitze und ließ daphne noch gleichgültiger werden, als sie es schon bei einem liebhaber gewesen war . Apollo , jedoch , verfolgte daphne unerbittlich bis , in verzweiflung , sie verwandelte sich in einen lorbeerbaum an ihren ufern father's fluss .
