Eine Passage von A Song of Unending Sorrow, vom chinesischen Dichter Bai Juyi (772–846), wird in dem unverwechselbaren Stil gebürstet, der mit Konoe Nobutada verbunden ist, der für seine hoch expressive kursive Kalligraphie bekannt war. Das erweiterte Gedicht, das die tragische Geschichte erzählt, wie der Kaiser Xuanzongs Kontrolle über das Reich von seiner Liebe zu Lady Yang Guifei, mit Mitgliedern von Palastkreisen aus der Antike gesungen.
