Leonardo da Vinci begann im Jahr 1504 Studien für ein Gemälde, scheinbar nie ausgeführt, von Leda auf dem Boden mit ihren Kindern. 1508 malte er eine andere Zusammensetzung des Themas, mit einer nackt stehenden Leda kuscheln den Schwan, mit den zwei Sätzen von Säuglingszwillen, und ihre riesigen gebrochenen Eierschalen. Das Original davon ist verloren, wahrscheinlich absichtlich zerstört, und wurde zuletzt im französischen königlichen Château de Fontainebleau 1625 von Cassiano dal Pozzo aufgenommen. Jetzt in Wilton House, Salisbury.
