geboren in Atlanta, Lucy May Stanton studierte in LaGrange, Georgia und lebte einige der Zeit in Athen, Georgia. Sie bemalte viele bedeutende Georgier, darunter Atlanta Bürgermeister Charles Collier, Autor Joel Chandler Harris und (posthum) Sprecher des Hauses Howell Cobb. Sie schuf Werke in Öl, Pastell und Aquarell, ist aber am besten für ihre Porträt Miniaturen in Aquarell auf Elfenbein bekannt. Manchmal nannte sie dieses fast lebensgroße Portrait
