Ein acetisch aus dem fünften Jahrhundert, Maria von Ägypten wird gezeigt, dass sie ihre letzte Kommunion von den Händen des Priesters Zosimus erhält, nach siebenundvierzig Jahren Isolation in der Wüste Palästinas. Das Bild zeigt die Ekstase der Saint Mary Magdalen (Molinari Pradelli Sammlung, Bologna). Es wurde 1709 an Papst Clement XI als Geschenk des Senats von Bologna in Erwartung seiner Unterstützung für die Gründung einer Kunstakademie in der Stadt gegeben. Franceschinis Kunst strebt nach Klarheit des Ausdrucks und einer idealisierten Menschheit zusammen mit den religiösen und mythologischen Geschichten, die er dargestellt.
