Mark Gertler war eine jüdische émigré, die in Londons East End lebte. Er malte oft die Freunde und Familie, die Teil dieser engmaschigen Gemeinschaft waren. Dies ist ein Porträt der Frau des Künstlers Marjorie. Obwohl dies ein Porträt seiner Frau ist, hat der Künstler sie fast als Stillleben behandelt.
