Cassatt malte dieses Bild gegen Ende ihrer Karriere, und sie absolvierte eine Reihe von Studien und Skizzen, bevor sie an ihrer endgültigen Komposition ankam. Die Figuren, obwohl asymmetrisch angeordnet, bilden in klassischer Weise eine Pyramide. Das Zusammenspiel von vertikalen und horizontalen Linien im Hintergrund hält die Symmetrie aufrecht.
