Dieses Kunstwerk zeigt ein Heron mit Lotus, ein Motiv namens lián lù (bekannt als renro in Japanisch), das in China während der Yuan Dynastie entstand. In Japan sind Lotussen mit dem Buddhismus verbunden, während sie in China hauptsächlich mit Glück verbunden sind. Das chinesische Wort lián lù, bezogen auf das Heron- und Lotusmotiv, gilt selbst als auspicious. Während lián lù mit den chinesischen Zeichen für “Heron” und “Lotus” geschrieben werden kann, kann es auch mit chinesischen Zeichen geschrieben werden, verstanden “Lucky-Pfad”. Es wurde daher benutzerdefinierte, mit Studenten Bilder von Herons mit Lotus als Token von Glück zu teilen. Wenn das Motiv sich nach Japan entwickelt hat, kann es diese Bedeutung behalten haben oder nicht.
