Das Ictíneo I war das erste bekannte U-Boot, das von Narciso Monturiol, einem gebürtigen von Barcelona, zwischen 1858 und 1859 gebaut wurde. Es war 7 m lang, 2,5 m breit und 3,5 m tief. Sein erster Zweck war die Erleichterung der Korallenfischerei. Der Name Ictíneo war das Ergebnis der Kombination der alten griechischen Wörter Ichtus (Fisch) und Naus (Schiff). Eine Replik kann im Barcelona Maritime Museum besucht werden.
