Nikola Petrov kreierte eine Reihe von Landschaftsmalereien in der Stadt, die Sofia als Wahrzeichen repräsentierte, die dazu beigetragen haben, die Hauptstadt in eine moderne Stadt zu verwandeln, wie “St. Sofia Kirche”, “Lion’s Bridge”, “The National Theater” und “Banski Square”. Seine Landschaften, sowohl urban als auch natürlich, sind im Geiste des Post-Impressionismus, während auch auf Symbolismus. Petrovs Leben wurde während des Ersten Weltkriegs durch Tuberkulose kurz geschnitten. Heute gelten seine Werke als Klassiker der modernen Kunst in Bulgarien.
