Patrick Nasmyth wurde als "die englische Hobbema" bezeichnet. Der Einfluss von holländischen Landscapisten aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, wie Meyndert Hobbema (1638–1709) und Jacob van Ruisdael (1628/29–1682) ist in dieser charmanten ramshackle Szene des Landeslebens gut sichtbar. Gemalt im Jahr 1828, ist es eine von mehreren Darstellungen der gleichen Ansicht – das Thema war außergewöhnlich beliebt – einschließlich einer extrem engen Variante jetzt in der Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.
