Neben Äpfeln – einem Lieblingsmotiv von Cézanne’s – sind die Keramikgläser und Tasse in diesem Stillleben in zahlreichen Gemälden des Künstlers zu sehen. Die Tapete im Hintergrund erscheint in sechs Arbeiten, die er etwa 1877 malte, als er eine Wohnung in 67 rue de l’Ouest, Paris gemietet. Sein Muster wird sowohl durch die Form des weißen Tuchs, auf dem die Alltagsgegenstände angeordnet sind, als auch durch die gemalte Blumendekoration auf der Vorderseite der Holzkiste reflektiert.
