Anstatt die Natur genau zu reflektieren, wollte Cézanne im Betrachter einen Eindruck von Masse und Tiefe wecken. Auf dieser Aquarell, die aus Patches besteht und um 1900 gemalt ist, ist der Papierrohling ebenso platzbildendes Element wie die farbigen Pinselstriche, und vor allem diese weißen Flächen, die die vibrierenden Lichter der Sonnenlichtlandschaft hervorbringen.
