Der dänische Maler Peder Severin Kroyer (1851-1909) ist eine wichtige Figur in der School of Skagen, die verschiedene Künstler zusammenbrachte, um an der gleichen Stelle zu arbeiten, im Stil der Schule von Pont-Aven. Sie wurde Teil der in den 1860er Jahren initiierten skandinavischen künstlerischen Erneuerung. Ab 1882 verbrachte Kroyer mehrere Sommer in Skagen, wo er das rustikale Leben der Fischer darstellte. Das ist der Fischfang.
