LABEL-TEXT Obwohl es ein fertiges Kunstwerk zu sein scheint, ist diese Leinwand dennoch die Modelllo (Arbeitsskizze) für Philippe de Champaignes großes Altarstück für den Hauptaltar der Kirche in der Grande Chartreuse, das Hauptkloster der kartesischen religiösen Ordnung nördlich von Grenoble, Frankreich. Das Altarbild ist heute im Museum in dieser Stadt. Monumental in der Empfängnis und gekennzeichnet durch eine für seine Gönner angemessene Frömmigkeit, Champaignes tiefen Christus am Kreuz zeigt einen bestimmten Moment im Evangelium nach Johannes (19:30): „Er beugte seinen Kopf und gab seinen Geist auf. „
