Das Dokument ist Teil einer Sammlung von 30 Briefen, geschrieben in einem vertrauten Stil, adressiert vom König an die Gräfin von Paredes, Schwester Luisa Magdalena de Jesús nach ihrem Eintrag als Karmeliterin im Kloster Malagón. In diesem Fall drückt er sein Bedauern für den Verlust von Yprés in Flandern oder für die französischen Fortschritte in Katalonien mit der Belagerung von Tortosa aus. Im Gegenteil, er ist optimistisch über die fortschreitende Normalisierung nach dem Aufstand von Neapel. Der König schreibt auch über ein Porträt von Velázquez und dem Schauspieler Juan Rana, für den Philip IV eine tiefe Bewunderung empfand.
