Von 1552 bis 1567 lebte und arbeitete der englische Kaufmann Thomas Gresham (1519-1579) in Antwerpen als Finanzmittler der englischen Krone (`Königshändler'). Diese prominente soziale Position erklärt, warum er sein Porträt von Mor gemalt hatte, der Gerichtskünstler Philip II. war. Dieser in Utrecht geborene Maler wurde für die genaue Aufzeichnung des Details in seinen Porträts bemerkt. Er zeigte Gresham als eine starke, etwas reservierte Persönlichkeit. Mor malte auch ein Porträt von Greshams Frau, die ebenfalls im Rijksmuseum ist.
