la grenouillère war ein beliebtes arbeiterresort, das aus einem spa bestand , eine bootseinrichtung und ein schwimmendes café . Optimistisch gefördert als " Trouville-sur-Seine " , es befand sich an der seine in der nähe von bougival , leicht erreichbar mit dem zug von paris und war gerade mit einem besuch von kaiser napoleon iii mit seiner frau und seinem sohn begünstigt worden . monet und renoir erkannten beide in la grenouillère ein ideales thema für die bilder der freizeit, die sie verkaufen wollten .
