Jean-Antoine-Dominique Ingres, französischer Maler, wurde 1780 in Montauban geboren und ging nach Paris, um im Studio Davids zu studieren. Er gewann 1802 die Prix de Rome. 1820 nach Paris zurückgekehrt, wurde er zum Professor an der Académie ernannt und 1834 wurde Direktor der Französischen Akademie in Rom. Er gründete einen beneidenswerten Ruf und wurde 1862 Mitglied der Ehrenlegion und Senatorin. Er starb 1867 in Paris.
