Pietro da Cortona ist am besten bekannt für sein Meisterwerk des barocken Illusionismus, die Decke der Großen Halle des PalazzoBarberini, Rom, zwischen 1632 und 1639 gebacken. Eine Allegorie der göttlichen Vorsehung, die Decke verherrlicht die Familie Barberini, einschließlich Papst Urban VIII. Diese Studie ist Vorbereitung für die weibliche Figur, die Rom verkörpert. Eine von oben beleuchtete fachkundige Erkundung der von der Figur abgekürzten Form ist eine der schönsten der Studien im Zusammenhang mit der Zulassung.
