Das Bild eines einsamen Fischers, der einen demütigen Skiff pilotiert, ist eines der klassischen Motive der Reklusion. Diese Wiedergabe des Themas wurde ursprünglich auf einem Faltfächer montiert. Das Gemälde hätte eine Seite geschmückt, während die andere ein Gedicht (jetzt verloren) hätte.
