Dieses Bild, wahrscheinlich 1878 gemalt, zeigt einen renommierten Ort in den Weißen Bergen von New Hampshire bei Franconia Notch. Blakelock hatte die Website auf seiner Flitterwochenreise besucht. Die romantische Aufregung des tiefen Clefts in den Felsen und des drohenden Boulders, der so prekärisch über dem eisigen Strom liegt, wurde paradoxerweise mit großer Direktheit und Objektivität präsentiert. Die gesamte lackierte Oberfläche ist interessant mit starkem Kontrast von Licht und Dunkel und durch die Veränderung von glatten und aufgerauhten Texturen, die eine charakteristische Technik von Blakelock ist.
