Die auf einem Kissen sitzende Bronzefigur wird von zwei Palmen gerahmt, die eine Schüssel tragen. Er schlägt einen Gong mit dem Uhrgesicht, der den Namen Nicolas Sotiau trägt, der 1782 zum Meister-Uhrmacher wurde. Der Fels und die Basis sind aus weißem Marmor. Fernando Nunez, spanischer Botschafter von Louis XVI, besaß eine identische Uhr, und eine ähnliche wurde in etwa 1787 vom Marsch-Mercier Dominique Daguerre für das chinesische Zimmer im Carlton House, der Londoner Heimat des Prince of Wales (die Zukunft George IV), einer der größten Liebhaber der französischen Kunst seines Tages geliefert.
