Im Jahre 1827 verheiratet, Ruth und Samuel Shute waren ein Mann-und-Frau-Team von itineranten Porträt Maler arbeiten in New England und upstate New York. Obwohl sie zunächst unabhängig gemalt, arbeitete das Paar an einer Reihe von Öl- und Aquarell-Portraits ab 1832. Wenig ist über den Sitzer bekannt, der nur durch die Visitenkarte in ihrer rechten Hand identifiziert wird. Eine Aufschrift auf der Rückseite zeigt den Beitrag jedes Künstlers zum Werk, das „Drawn by R.W. Shute and Painted by S. A. Shute“ war. Das Paar charakteristisch gemischte Materialien, kombiniert Graphit, Aquarell und aufgebrachte Goldfolie, hinzugefügt hier, um Miss Parkers Schmuck zu emulieren.
