Stems von Bambus, Biegen unter dem Gewicht des Schnees fiel auf ihre schlanken Blätter, aus hinter einem moss-pocked Boulder. Sakaki Hyakusen hat die Bereiche des Papiers unbemalt gelassen, um Schnee zu repräsentieren, während eine unebene graue Wäsche einen dunklen, winterlichen Abend signalisiert. Hyakusen gilt heute als Pionier der Nanga, oder „southern school painting“, in Japan, und sein Einfluss auf spätere Nanga-Künstler wie Yosa Buson (1716–1784) ist weithin anerkannt.
