Obwohl Samuel Bourne am besten für seine kehrenden Landschaften bekannt war, machte er 1869 mehrere Bilder von Einheimischen, als er in die Stadt Darjeeling und seine umliegenden Wälder reiste. Hier fotografierte Bourne vier Bhooteas, Gebirgsvölker aus einem Gebiet des Himalayas im südlichen Tibet, gekleidet in Bakhus, die losen Cloak-Stil Kleidungsstücke mit vollen Ärmeln, die der Bhote-Region gemeinsam waren. Obwohl Bournes Bild eine charakteristische Gruppe von Bhooteas für ein britisches Publikum illustrierte, bleiben seine Themen immer noch selbstbewusst individuell, posiert für die Kamera mit bemerkenswerter Selbstsitzung.
