GENERAL BAQUEDANO wurde 1898 gebaut und wurde als Trainingsschiff für junge Matrosen eingesetzt. Im Jahr 1931 besuchte GENERAL BAQUEDANO Sydney während einer Trainingsreise von Pazifik-Ländern, die Neuseeland und Suva, Fiji. 100 Tage aus Valparaiso, Chile, kam das Trainingsschiff in Sydney an. GENERAL BAQUEDANO wurde von Captain Luis Alvarez befohlen und seine Crew bestand aus 17 Offizieren, drei Unteroffizier und 292 Männer einschließlich einer Reihe von Bewertungen.
