Miyamoto Musashi war ein großer Schwerter der frühen Edo-Periode (1600-1868) und Gründer der Niten Ichiryu Schule der Schwerterschaft. Er war auch ein feiner Maler und Kalligraph, der seine Kalligraphie nach der Southern Song Dynastie chinesischer Künstler Liang Kai und sein Gemälde nach dem japanischen Künstler Kaiho Yusho (1533-1615) stilisierte.
