Der Drucker und Maler Sir Frank Short (1857-1945) wurde ursprünglich als Ingenieur ausgebildet, verließ aber diese Linie der Arbeit, um eine Karriere als Künstler zu verfolgen. Er besuchte Abendkurse an der Stourbridge School of Art, bevor er nach London zog. In London studierte er an den South Kensington und Westminster Schools of Art und beherrschte die Techniken von Mezzotint, Aquatint und Radierung. Kurze Ausstellung an der Royal Academy zwischen 1885 und 1904. Er gewann zwei Goldmedaillen für Gravur im Pariser Salon 1889 und 1900. Bald darauf wurde er Lehrer des Ätzens und war Professor für Gravur am Royal College of Art zwischen 1913 und 1924. Er wurde 1885 zum Mitglied der Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (heute der Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers) gewählt und wurde zwischen 1910 und 1938 Präsident.
