"Die Schatzkammer der Bilder zeigt Magrittes Versuch, den Betrachter in Frage zu stellen. Magrittes Punkt ist einfach: das Gemälde ist kein Rohr; es ist ein Bild eines Rohres. Eine anekdotische Geschichte ist, dass, als Magritte gefragt wurde, ob das Gemälde ein Rohr war, er antwortete, dass es natürlich kein Rohr ist, und schlug vor, dass sie versuchen, es mit Tabak zu füllen.
