Der Sitter trägt eine Ähnlichkeit zu Hendrickje Stoffels (geboren etwa 1625–26, gestorben 1663), Rembrandts Schwiegerfrau und dem Thema einer Reihe seiner Porträts, von denen einer in The Met ist. Das Bild ist die Arbeit eines Schülers von Rembrandt, und das starke Licht, das auf das Gesicht trifft, deutet darauf hin, dass es von Barent Fabritius sein kann.
