In den germanischen Ländern während des achtzehnten Jahrhunderts, und in Flandern durch den siebzehnten, war die Pulpe ein ikonographisches Fahrzeug zum Ausdruck der Wahrheit des Glaubens in Figuren, deren Stil aus der Eloquenz des Predigers ausgeliehen wurde. In der Tat wurde die Kanzel als "Sessel de vérité" bezeichnet. In Frankreich wurde die Predigt als literarisches Genre angebaut.
