Berühmt als Maler von Segelschiffen, Meereslandschaften und arktischen Szenen reiste Bradford weithin als Künstler. Zwischen 1877 und 1881 besuchte er das Yosemite-Tal mindestens sechs Mal, um Studien für Wintry-Ansichten und die umliegende Sierra Nevada-Gebirge in Kalifornien zu machen. Dieses Gemälde zeigt einen Blick vom westlichen Rand des Tals in Richtung der berühmten Granitform, teilweise durch Wolken verdeckt. Links ist El Capitan, der größte Monolith von Granit in der Welt. In der rechten Mitte sind Kathedrale Felsen und ein gefrorener Bridalveil Fall.
