Tennessee Celeste Claflin, Schwester des berühmten Victoria Woodhull, war ein Wahrsager, „Table-Rapper“, Börsenmakler, Journalist und Heiler. Sie befürwortete die Freie Liebe Plattform: das Recht auf Heirat, Scheidung und Kinder ohne Regierungsinterferenz. Als Mädchen praktizierte „Tennie“ in der Medizinshow ihrer Familie Clairvoyance. 1868 wurde sie zum magnetischen Heiler des New Yorker Millionärs Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877). Mit Unterstützung von Vanderbilt gründeten Tennie und Victoria die erste weibliche Wall Street Maklerfirma. Der alte Vanderbilt versprach Tennie zu heiraten. Als er 1877 starb, nahm Tennessee eine ordentliche $100.000 von der Vanderbilt Familie für vielversprechend, sie würde seinen Willen nicht bestreiten.
