Maria Sutherland (ca. 1782–1850) war die Tochter von Margaret und Daniel Sutherland. Die Sutherlands waren Freunde von Berczy, die seine Kunst in ganz Europa praktiziert hatten. Maria trägt ein Empire-Wist-Kleid, ein Wahrzeichen des Neo-Klassizismus. Der Unterschied zwischen ihrem Kleid und der von ihrer Mutter getragenen, Margaret, in ihrem Portrait von 1792, zeigt die bemerkenswerte Verschiebung der Mode in knapp über einem Jahrzehnt. Maria würde schließlich James Hallowell (1778–1816) heiraten, der, wie ihr Vater, stark in den Pelzhandel investiert wurde.
